Blowing smoke out my eyes

Bear with me, folks, this story is good but I've got to lay the background.

Tonight my family was hanging out having a friendly Rubik's Twist Puzzle competition. We were competing for the fastest time to turn it into a ball. We got this toy for Happy Boy while on vacation last week and he is lightin' fast. His best time to date is 26 seconds. For the record Happy Mom's time is 19 sec!

So, tonight after he hit his all-time best he was doing a happy dance and then hollered out, "Wanna see me blow smoke out of my eyes?"

Kids always say weird stuff, at least mine do, and you just kind of shake your head and smile. That is until you realize what they really mean.

He was literally blowing air out of his eye balls, people!!!

I couldn't tell you the amount of emotions rolling around in my poor little self. I felt confused, horrified, disgusted, amused, and shocked, just to name a few.

We did get it on video - because what good parent wouldn't permanently capture such a pride-filled moment? Of course, I didn't video it or ask him to display this unique talent on video until after I had researched it online first. Apparently, this is a physical anomaly.

Happy Girl has been itching to send in a video to America's Funniest Home Video's, she claims this could be just the one. I have to admit that I agree.

I'm going to be honing my Momager skills because I just know Hollywood will be calling soon, at least Dave Letterman.

Without further ado:

We're back...then we're off!

We had a great time in Branson but are glad to be back home. I had been to Branson pre-children and once when our daughter was a few months old and I just didn't find it too appealing. With no kids - New York, Chicago or Vegas is more my speed, but with kids Branson was great - I almost kinda liked it.

I was going to post a day-by-day summary of what we did but really I'm a lazy blogger. I got as far as these few pics from the first day and then decided to call it quits. I may upload to Flickr at some point...but I don't know.

This is Happy Boy's fear face.

This is Happy Girl's making-fun-of-brother's-fear-face. I'm not sure what Happy Boy's face is here - just scary to see.

We had a great time overall. The best part? We're off! That means we came back to town shipped the kid's to the grandparent's house and had a couple of days to recoup! I highly recommend a post-vacation vacation!

Branson - that's where we're at!

This the day we headed out for Branson.

In this pic we're getting ready to head out. Nothing says road trip like wacky teefers.

Aren't these the ugliest trees ever? We started to see them as we neared Branson, they just look so pitiful and beat up.

We surprised our kiddos by meeting up with my brother-in-law's family. They just happened to be vacationing in Branson with his wife's family and they stayed an extra day in order to meet up with us. Aren't they the coolest??? This pic is of our four kiddos all together. The red head in the back is Happy Girl with her Happy Cousin next to her. In the front is Happy Boy on the right with his Happy Cousin on the left.

This is Happy Boy in a go-kart that is just his size.

Happy Girl is growing up way to quickly...this is but a brief glimpse of what will be happening in the not to far future.

Here is the Happy Gang. The first four on the left are my Happy in-laws. The four on the right are the Happy family.

A lot if this and a lot of that...

My little world has been spinning busily these past few months. Here is another update on various stuff.

HAPPY GIRL'S DEBUT AT THE TALENT SHOW

Happy Girl could not have done a better job with her performance in the talent show. You may recall our dicussions on how proud we were that she even had the guts to audition here and then how thrilled we were when she actually made it into the show here. So, the day of the show was not without its intensity!

The drama began to brew the previous day when my mother called and said that her and my father had to be back on the other side of town by 10:30 a.m. for some commitments. (Side note: My parents are the best grandparents ever and they put a lot of effort and sacrifice to support our children in their school and extra curricular activities. We love them for that!) So, I told them they hadn't given a schedule of events and I had no idea when she would be performing. I told them it wasn't worth the risk of driving over here only for them to have to leave without seeing the performance. They live about 40 min. from us and were willing to drive through the morning rush hour traffic just to maybe have the chance to see her. I told you they were awesome!

So, the morning of...
  • Happy Girl - solid as a rock. Ready to hit the stage and live the diva life!
  • Mom and Dad - nervous as all get out, praying that God would not allow her to trip on the stage or flub up so bad that she would forever be scarred from the screetching laughter of peers. Only to have her laying on a Chaise accross from a theripist at 18 pouring out her angst and torment that all began from the day that her parents encouraged her to perform at her first grade talent show.

Okay, I'm a bit dramatic - but it's not too far from reality.

Without going into a long drawn out boring story...my parents were literally standing by the door ready to leave when she finally had her turn. And she did GREAT!

Here's a glimpse:(no comments on the stability of the camera - I was sitting next to a four-year-old boy...nuf said.)

MY GRANDPA TURNS 8O!

We had a great celebration this Memorial Day weekend. Not only is it a blessing to know that my Grandfather contributed to our nation by serving time with the Merchant Marines and the Army - which we celebrate when we gather on Memorial Day. But, it also happend to be his birthday on Sunday so Monday we had a great party to celebrate with friends and family.

My dad posted a great pic of him here.

And here he is when he was a merchant seaman. He's working on starting a blog, hopefully soon. But in the mean time you can check out his awesome ministry here.

Okay, I think I've officially crammed in the most links ever in this post.

Armed Forces Day

Happy Girl's school had a special celebration for Armed Forces Day. It was an absolute blast! The school invited all active duty and vets of any of the armed forces to join in a special celebration. Happy Girl invited Happy Grandpa and Happy Great-Grandad. Grandpa already had a commitment that day and wasn't able to join us, but Great-Grandad was thrilled to be a part of the celebration.

Here is Great-Grandad and Happy Girl. He served as a Merchant Marine during World War II and also served in the Army.

(I heard Grandad might be working on unveiling a blog soon - I'll be sure to keep you posted on any progress!)

This is Happy Great-Grandma with the crew. Aren't they the sweetest things?!!!

Part of the day's festivities was the visit of a Chinook helicopter. Check out the landing of the Chinook videoed by my husband here. This had to be one of the highlights of the day. Being able to meet these men who serve our country and being able to see the kids explore this awesome piece of machinery. FUN!

Happy Boy was thrilled! He now claims he wants to be a pilot.

When Happy Boy saw this...he said,
"Look, Mom! Health!"
If you have ever played a video/computer game that involves solder-y type themes you'll see the red cross as a place to get more "health". Happy Boy has played many games with his dad and was sure that this is the real life health for the soldiers.

The kids also had the opportunity to sit in the Hummer that was brought along on the helicopter

This picture summarizes my emotions throughout the entire day. It was surreal for me to watch my kids playing on the playground with this large Chinook sitting in the background. If it wasn't for the sacrifices of all our Nation's Armed Forces and their families then my family wouldn't be able to enjoy the freedom and peace that we live in daily.

To all our soldiers and their families: THANK YOU! My freedom and safety is because of your sacrifices and you will always be heroes to me.
