Halloween Update...

For the record...it's 7 p.m. and we're back from trick or treating. Yes, you read right...we're back.

My husband and I are floored that my kids don't want to stay up for hours going door to door and gathering as much loot as possible (after all that's what we did when we were kids). My daughter was anxious to get home so she could "sell" the candy. And my son, well, he just wanted to eat the candy, and going to more homes just meant that it was going to take longer before he could eat them.

So, here we are at home...my son has made his way through half his bag of candy. Well, it's not that much. And my daughter is in social bliss opening the door repeatedly for strangers and enjoying being in control of handing out candy.

The problem. I didn't buy much candy to hand out because I really thought we wouldn't be here. We're going to be shuting off the lights soon and sitting in complete darkness. That's really not too bad in my book.

So, here are our pumkins for you to view.

I just don't get it.

If I was a comedian (which I'm not) this would be my shtick line, "I just don't get it". Kinda like the guy whose shtick line is "Here's your sign." Yeah.

So, I've shared some things in the past that I just don't get. Here's some more:

  • How can I, who loves to organize, be so flippant about what is and isn't organized? I could (and do, at times) attribute it to having young kids and no time, but I'm not really sure that is the case. My pantry is labled (not to the level of the glorious organization of this one) but my library and desk are a disaster. I just don't get it.

  • How can I, who loves to organize, not care to clean? You'd think they go hand in hand, wouldn't ya? Not with me. Those little bunnies under the bed can stay as long as they want. Eh, as long as they're lined up in a row and labled. I just don't get it.

My Boy's heroes

Our latest project around the Happy home is a room makeover for Happy Boy. Santa will be delivering the bulk of his makeover items, however, I've been asking him what he wants so we can prepare our letter to Santa. Santa needs a lot of time to work on a project like this one! ;-)

After consistently giving me the same answer to my pounding question, "What theme do you want?", we have settled on a theme: Superheroes.

Not an unusual request for a 4 year old boy's dream room. He can't possibly narrow it down to just one hero because they all have special powers and can contribute to saving the world in very different ways. So, as long as there is a bit of Spiderman, Superman, Batman, Captain America, Hulk (you get the idea) we will be in good shape. Really, most of those heroes don some red, blue or yellow and can be pulled together thematically for a room quite easily. I was thinking we could go with a comic book type feel to the room.

So, the other day at Wal-Mart I decided to stop by the bedding isle with him to see which superhero he would want to be displayed on his bedding. As we were looking at Batman, Superman and Spiderman I asked which was his favorite. He answered, "The Soldier One." I hadn't even noticed the camouflage bedding because it was on the bottom of the shelf and over to the side. Then the following conversation occurred.

Happy Mom: But, Joe, soldiers aren't superheroes.

Happy Boy: (with an insulted look on his face) Soldiers ARE superheroes, Mom!"

A flood of emotions and thoughts rushed through my mind in that very moment. I was humbled by my son, yet so very proud. What a sobering moment, to be brought to reality by my son.

Yes, Joe. You're right, soldiers are superheroes.

So, to all the soldiers who have dedicated their lives to protect our country, know that a little boy understands your place of honor: You ARE Superheroes.

I love me a good laugh!

I love laughing and I so appreciate a good sense of humor. I can only assume that my librarian had nothing better to do on a rainy day and needed a great laugh.

Here's the book I checked out with my kids:

Seems innocent enough. That is, until I got home - threw the books in a pile and later walked by and caught glance of this:

So...am I going to post anything new?

Hmmm...? Good question, Heather.

I don't feel like it. So there.

I have been overwhelmed with things that I could share and blog about, great healing that God has brought me and great things occurring for our family, but, I just haven't been in the mood. Hence, I haven't blogged. I hate to admit this....but I've rarely even been reading anyone else's blogs. Sheesh...did I just say that? *sigh* It's the truth.

Gee, I didn't know anyone was even still checkin' in on me. That does make me feel very special.

I do have a bit of good news to share about that I just found out today...Starbucks is moving in around the corner from me. I know, some of you believe it is the devil's establishment...but I'm doing the happy
dance! ;-)

See ya around, if I feel like it.

Peace out!
