Break from Blogging

I'm gonna be slowing down on the blogging until school starts. I've decided I want to enjoy this last month or so with the kids. I'll try to post a few times so check back but it won't be as often.

Ah, to be young

Do you have kids? I do. I have two, a 5-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son. My daughter loves to talk, in fact, she rarely stops. She'll go on and on and on about nothing! Usually I'm trying to rush her through the stories that have at least 3-4 phrases that are repeated in various ways. However, the other day I stopped myself. I sat and I really tried to listen to every detail - even though it was repeated several times. You know, I got to thinking about her life and how this story really wasn't about nothing. In her young life, so innocent, so simple, so uncomplicated this was a HUGE story. Then I thought, "Thank you, God. Thank you, God, for allowing her to have such a simple happy life." So many times in my adult world I listen to those stories and just blow them off because I just want to get back to "important" stuff. I've decided I need to really listen more often. One, because it is a great connect for my daughter and me. Two, because there is no better way to escape the adult life of craziness, worries, and complications.

Swing over the top

When was the last time you enjoyed a good swing?

Last Friday we had a family night at the park and our family swung together. Yes, even Brian. It was fun. Kiersten and I were trying to swing as high as we could so that we could kick the leaves on a tree with our feet. I haven't giggled so hard in a long time. It was such a blast!

Next time you head to the park, hop on and remember the feeling of being a kid again. I dare you to pursue swinger girl's goal and swing on thru to the other side!

Health Fun Fact

Do you know how to get the effective carb count of an item off of the nutrition label? Simple.

When counting carbs you can deduct the grams of dietary fiber from the total carbohydrate grams to get the net carb count.

Example:
19g Total Carbohydrate
-14g Dietary Fiber
___
5g (ECC)EFFECTIVE CARB COUNT - THIS IS WHAT COUNTS!

TREEmendous TREEhouses

Over the weekend we visited Powell Gardens' summer exhibit TREEmendous TREEhouses. I'll have to admit that the name of the exhibit is slightly misleading. I had thought the houses would be more typical and interactive for the children. Apparently these 10 tree houses were designed through a regional competition among architects, artists and landscape architects, whose goal was to be these mysterious, whimsical, and surreal structures – none of which represent your typical backyard tree house. The goal was to educate visitors about the benefits of trees - not to let kids run wild and crazy climbing like little monkeys.

That being said....we did have a lot of fun. A couple of the tree houses were interactive enough to entertain. They have them spread along the grounds in a way that keeps you moving and interested. Just inside the main building there is an area where kids can paint a pot for only $3.00 and bring home a beautiful flower. If you do choose to paint a pot do it before heading out to the trail, it will give the pot time to dry inside and you can pick it up on your way back out. The kids enjoyed it and it was wonderful family time spent together. I would definitely recommend the exhibit to anyone interested, as long as they understand they aren't your typical tree houses.

Rebble Joins the Blogolution!!!!

At long last Rebble Kelsey has launched her own blog. Rebble is one of the key women at Grace and I know that her new blog is going to be a blessing to many.

My prayer is that God will use Rebble, Janna, and me to inspire other women at Grace Church to join the growing list of bloggers. I believe blogging is a great way to share how God is moving in our lives and also a great way to keep in touch with great friends, family and mentors.

Check out Rebble's site here.
