Okay, so I've been trying to "adopt a healthier eating lifestyle", that's the new term for diet. I have never been a big dieter so the healthier lifestyle really is the direction I'd prefer to go in anyway. The problem...I've discovered I'm not as educated as I think.
My husband was a high school athlete and has learned a lot about the human body and how it functions. He's been trying for several years to help me "get it" but I guess I'm a thick head. Finally, he said, "It's simple, you can't gain weight if you burn more calories than you take in." He's right that is simple. Again, the problem...do I really know what I'm consuming?
I've been tracking all my calories and such for meals at home and have been doing great. I haven't been tracking meals at restaurants. So I decided to find out what the calorie count is for some of our common meals out. YIKES! Not a good idea. Well, actually, it was a good idea just very sobering.
So, here are a couple of reads for better fast food choices:

If you want an extra incentive not to eat fast food, I would recommend renting the documentary "Super Size Me"! It hasn't totally cured my McD's habit, but it makes me think!

I would love to have a look at that documentary. I have tried to cut out McD's - with two little one's it can be tough since their idea of a "GREAT" night out is McD's.

I haven't seen the movie either but I watched part of Morgan Spurlock's, star of "Super Size Me", follow up TV show called "30 Days". The first show followed him while he lived off of minimum wage earnings for thirty days. Very interesting show!

I used a site called www.myfooddiary.com, for quite a while. I recently cut it out of my budget; it is $8.95 a month, but it was awesome, and I would use it again. It is so easy to use, and keeps track of all of your intake and exercise with a huge database of food items and you can easily add items. I did it for about 4 months, and it totally changed the way I viewed food. I really got to know the calories in all foods and correct portion size. It is a very goal oriented site, with warnings when I would go over my dialy calorie level, while showing me what I would weigh in 3 months if I kept it up. I am not sure if they offer free trials, but I highly recommend it. It is easy to start up and cancel.

Thanks, Heath! I have a program similar to that on my PDA. In fact, that is what go my mind going about the eating out stuff...trying to track the food in that program showed me how crazy it was. Thanks for the tip!!!
